What is Lipitor 80mg? Lipitor 80mg is a high-intensity lipid-lowering medication that contains the active ingredient atorvastatin calcium. It belongs to a group of medicines known as statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). This medication works by reducing the production of cholesterol by the liver. What is Lipitor 80mg used for? Lipitor... is primarily prescribed alongside a low-fat diet to treat: High Cholesterol: To lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides. Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: To reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and certain types of heart surgery in people who have heart disease or risk factors for heart disease. The 80mg strength is the maximum dosage of Lipitor and is usually reserved for patients who require aggressive cholesterol management. How to use Lipitor 80mg Lipitor should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once a day, with or without food. It is important to continue following a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medication. Avoid consuming large amounts of grapefruit juice, as it can increase the concentration of atorvastatin in your bloodstream and increase the risk of side effects. Safety Information Before taking Lipitor, inform your healthcare provider if you have liver disease, kidney disease, or if you consume large amounts of alcohol. Pregnancy Warning: Lipitor must not be used during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby. If you become pregnant, stop taking the medication and consult your doctor immediately.
