What is a Condom Catheter (Paul's Tube)? A condom catheter, or male external catheter, is a flexible sheath that rolls over the penis similar to a standard condom. Unlike internal (Foley) catheters, it is non-invasive and provides a discreet way to manage urinary incontinence without the discomfort of tube insertion.... It is commonly referred to as a Paul's Tube in Nigerian medical circles. Key Features & Benefits Non-Invasive Design: Easy to apply and remove, reducing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) compared to internal catheters. Secure Adhesive: Features an integrated skin-friendly adhesive that keeps the catheter in place for up to 24 hours. Anti-Kink Bellows: Designed with a reinforced tip to prevent twisting and ensure an unobstructed flow of urine into the drainage bag. Discreet & Comfortable: Can be worn under regular clothing with a leg-attached drainage bag. How to Use a Condom Catheter Clean and Dry: Ensure the area is clean and completely dry before application to help the adhesive stick properly. Roll On: Place the catheter over the head of the penis and unroll it down the shaft, leaving a small space at the tip for urine flow. Connect Bag: Attach the outlet tube to a urinary drainage bag (leg bag or bedside bag). Change Daily: For hygiene and skin health, it is recommended to change the catheter every 24 hours. Safety Information Latex Sensitivity: If you have a known latex allergy, check the packaging carefully as some models are made of latex. Silicone or TPE alternatives are available for sensitive skin. Proper Sizing: Using the correct size (e.g., 25mm, 30mm, 35mm) is crucial to prevent skin irritation or leaking. Consult your doctor or a Meddylab pharmacist if you are unsure which size to choose.
