Matropin Eye Drop (10ml) is a specialized ophthalmic solution formulated with Homatropine Hydrobromide 2%. It is primarily used by eye care professionals in Nigeria to dilate the pupil (mydriasis) and temporarily paralyze the eye's focusing muscles (cycloplegia) during diagnostic examinations or surgeries. What is Matropin Eye Drop used for? In... Nigeria, doctors often prescribe Matropin for: Diagnostic Eye Exams: Dilating the pupil to allow for a clear view of the retina. Uveitis Treatment: Reducing inflammation and preventing painful complications in the eye. Post-Surgery Care: Used after cataract surgery or other eye procedures to help the eye heal and reduce redness. How Matropin Works The active ingredient, Homatropine, belongs to the antimuscarinic class of medications. It works by blocking certain receptors in the eye muscles, which results in a wider pupil and prevents the eye from focusing on close objects. This effect typically begins within 15 to 30 minutes and can last up to 24 hours. Safety Information & Side Effects When using Matropin, you may experience temporary blurred vision and sensitivity to bright light. It is important to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until your vision is fully restored. Storage: Keep the bottle in a cool, dry place. Usage: To avoid contamination, do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface. Expiry: Dispose of the bottle 30 days after opening. If you have a history of glaucoma or have concerns about using this medication, please consult a Meddylab pharmacist or your ophthalmologist for guidance.
